City beach

Know before you go

Vlorë is where the Adriatic hands over to the Ionian, and where most Riviera road trips begin. Unlike the villages further south, this is a proper city: hospitals, banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, car hire and a long waterfront — the Lungomare — where the beach runs right alongside cafés and hotels.

The city beaches are sandy and shallow near the centre, turning to clearer pebble coves as the Lungomare runs south. It's the easiest place on the whole coast to arrive late, stock up, and start the drive south the next morning — or to base yourself for boat trips to Karaburun and Sazan.

City hotels on the Lungomare

Full-service hotels line the promenade with the beach across the road — the most amenities you'll find anywhere on the Riviera, from pools to parking.

Apartments in the centre

Self-catering apartments near Flag Square suit longer stays — supermarkets, bakeries and the morning market are all walkable.

Beachfront resorts to the south

Towards Radhimë the coast turns into a strip of newer beach resorts with quieter water and sunset views over the bay.

Where to eat

Eating well here

Seafront fish restaurants

The Lungomare is wall-to-wall seafood — order grilled fish, fried calamari and a village salad with the boats in view.

Old-town qofte and byrek

In the streets around the Muradie Mosque, bakeries and grill houses serve the everyday Albanian classics for a few hundred lekë.

Promenade cafés

Vlorë's evening ritual is the xhiro — join it with an espresso or an Aperol at any café along the palm walk.

Things to do

Don’t leave without

Kuzum Baba viewpoint

Climb (or drive) to the Bektashi tekke above the city for the full panorama of the bay, Sazan Island and the start of the Riviera.

Independence Monument & Muradie Mosque

Albania declared independence here in 1912 — the monument, museum and 16th-century mosque make a compact history walk.

Zvërnec Island & Narta Lagoon

Just north of the city, a wooden footbridge crosses the lagoon to a tiny island monastery surrounded by pines — best at sunset.
