Know before you go

Potami — Potam to locals, from the Greek word for river — is the beach in the next bay south of Himarë's centre, about 2 km along the shore road. Plenty of visitors drive straight past it on their way to somewhere else, which is exactly why it stays relaxed.

The water is the reason to come. Small, smooth pebbles mean nothing clouds it, and even when the wind picks up it stays strikingly clear. Beach clubs rent sunbeds, there are free public stretches between them, and town is still close enough to walk back for dinner.

Getting to Potami, parking and sunbeds

Getting there

From Himarë centre it's about 5 minutes by car, or a 20–25 minute walk south along the shore road. Vlorë–Sarandë coaches stop in town, so from the bus it's a short taxi or the same walk.

Parking

There are several lots near the beach — some free, some charging a small daily fee of a few hundred lek. It's rarely a problem except on August weekends, when you should arrive before 10 a.m.

The beach

Small, smooth pebbles that most people manage barefoot, though water shoes help. The pebbles are why the water stays so clear. Bring a mask: the rocks at either end are good for snorkelling on calm days.

Sunbeds & beach clubs

Beach clubs rent sunbed-and-umbrella sets by the day, with free public stretches between them. They're calmer than the party spots at Jale or Drymades — the music is background, not the point.

When to go

June and September are ideal: warm water and easy parking. In July and August, arrive by 10 a.m. for front-row sunbeds. Most clubs run from June to mid-September.

With children

Smooth pebbles, clear water, parking close by and Himarë five minutes away make Potami one of the easiest family beaches on this stretch of coast.
