Llogara Pass
The gateway moment — pine forests, paragliders, roast lamb, and the instant the whole Ionian appears beneath you.
The 6 km Llogara Tunnel under the mountains between Dukat and Palasë has changed the drive from Vlorë to the Riviera. Here's what you need to know — and why the old road is still worth it.
Updated October 2026
The tunnel first opened on 5 July 2024, closed again in November 2024 for finishing works, and has run continuously since 24 May 2025. It links the Dukat side with Palasë, below the pass.
Cars pay a toll to use the tunnel. Prices can change, so check the board at the entrance — and keep some lek in cash just in case.
The tunnel saves 20–40 minutes on a Vlorë–Himarë drive. But it skips the whole reason people loved this road: the view from the top at 1,027 metres, the pine forest, paragliding and the roast-lamb restaurants. Take the tunnel when you're in a hurry, and the pass at least once.
